Hitting the road with his Better in Boots Tour, Rhett recently performed at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. While taking the stage, the singer noticed a fan holding up a sign that read, “My mom is 87 years old and this is her first country concert.” Excited to be part of the woman’s first country concert, Rhett decided to make it extra special when he jumped the barricade and offered her a warm hug.

Fan Explains How Special The Moment Was With Thomas Rhett

As for the woman holding up the sign that caught Rhett’s attention, it happened to be the elderly woman’s daughter. Posting a video of how it all happened, the daughter said, “When I got there, I showed the people around me, they were like 20 and 30 something year olds. I loved everybody around me. It was so much fun. And so when he came out, everybody’s like, ‘put the sign up. Put the sign up.’ And I was like, ‘not yet. Not yet.’ So he came around a couple of times on our side. I was in third row, and I put it up and I don’t think he saw it.”

Not knowing if Rhett would see the sign, she decided to keep trying. “Then the one time that I put it up, everybody was pointing at me. and he saw it. His eyes got real wide so then I put it down, and then this was halfway into the concert sort of, he’s like, ‘where’s that girl with that sign?’ And I was like, oh my God. I put it up and he started reading it. And then that’s what ensued.”

Explaining how special the moment was, the woman declared, “That made my mom’s entire life, and I’m not even kidding. It made mine too. Thank you so much, Mr. Thomas Rhett. You are awesome. Big fan.”
