If you’re unfamiliar with The National Finals Rodeo, it is one the biggest rodeo competitions in the world and an opportunity for cowboys and cowgirls to show off their impressive niche skills. Furthermore, it’s a great time to stomp your boots, drink some beer, and listen to excellent country music.

That being so, this year’s musical lineup at Wrangler’s NFR was nothing short of impeccable. The line-up did not consist of Nashville’s current pop-country superstars. Instead, the event featured country musicians that more or less stick to the genre’s roots. Some of the musicians who played at the event were Riley Green, Zach Top, Colter Wall, Ian Munsick, Aaron Watson, Cody Jinks, and Tyler Halverson.
Despite this decorated group of performers, the fan-favorite performance to transpire at The NFR this year was without question The Red Clay Stray’s cover of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.”
The Red Clay Stray’s Continue Their Country Music Takeover
2024 has been the year of The Red Clay Strays. Thanks to their CMA nominations, their Americana Award, and Platinum single, “Wondering Why,” the group has been a highly listened to and demanded musical act. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that they were included in The NFR. And they didn’t just show up, as they also continued their country music takeover.
Their whole set was incredible, however, what swept fans off their feet was when they brought up current viral artist, Gabriella Rose, to sing “Folsom Prison Blues.” The performance was as nostalgic as it gets and surely satisfied all the old and new heads in the crowd. Between Brandon Coleman and Gabriella Rose’s vocals, and Zach Rishel’s guitar solo, the song was a near-verbatim rendition of the original. After all, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it, and it seems the Strays followed that rule to a tee.
In addition to the Stray’s bolstering their presence in country music, the performance was also a phenomenal opportunity for Rose. Rose, who has gone viral for her single, “Doublewide,” has recently been climbing the ranks in country music. Specifically, she recently announced she’d be joining J.R. Carroll on his Hometown Hero Tour.
The performance was nothing short of memorable. Furthermore, it offered both the Red Clay Strays and Gabriella Rose the opportunity to entertain and bolster their popularity.
