Vince Gill is no stranger to covering excellent country songs. He seems to know what suits his voice the best, and we could definitely stand to hear him belt out a few classics. Let’s look at a few country songs that we think Vince Gill should cover!

1. “Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys” by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson
His rich voice, his guitar-playing ability, his captivating stage presence… Few can go toe-to-toe with Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson on stage, but we think Vince Gill could captivate audiences with a rendition of “Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys”.
2. “Okie From Muskogee” by Merle Haggard
Given that Vince Gill is an Oklahoma native, this would be one of the best country songs for him to cover. He already dedicated a whole album to being from Oklahoma, so why not cover the ultimate ode to the Sooner State? Given his friendship with Merle Haggard, though, Gill might be a little too nervous about taking on one of the greats.
3. “Blue Moon Of Kentucky” by Bill Monroe
He may be from Oklahoma, but Vince Gill would do this ode to Kentucky justice. And he actually has in the past. Gill covered this song by Bill Monroe years ago, and it only exists in fuzzy recordings today. But we think a real studio production of this song featuring his voice would be otherworldly.
4. “Desperado” by The Eagles
Alright, Vince Gill has actually covered this country-rock song, too. He’s part of the Eagles, after all. He also said that “Desperado” was one of his all-time favorite songs. However, we think he could easily put out a formally-recovered cover of this song, rather than just live performance covers.
5. “Coat Of Many Colors” by Dolly Parton
Plenty of deeper-voiced crooners have covered this feathery Dolly Parton classic. We think Vince Gill’s high, pure tenor voice would suit this song beautifully among the other country songs on this list. And given his proven ability to perform arresting love songs, this song would make an excellent Vince Gill cover. He’s already covered “I Will Always Love You”, so why not “Coat Of Many Colors”?
