There is no need to rehash the illustrious career of the former Beatle, as McCartney lives an incredibly public lifestyle. However, people often forget about the singer’s deep affection for the Christmas spirit and the songs encompassing it. Yes, he released “Wonderful Christmastime,” though, his affinity goes far deeper than that. And it seemingly revolves around family, friends, and Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song.”

Paul McCartney’s Love For Nat King Cole’s Christmas Spirit

In a 2019 interview with BBC Radio 4’s World at One, McCartney divulged the importance of Christmas and Christmas music. Additionally, in the interview, McCartney stated that there were no good Christmas records anymore. So, he went and made his own. Though, don’t expect to hear it anytime soon, as it is simply for his family and friends.

He told the BBC, “So I actually went into my studio over a couple of years and I made one. The kids like it.” McCartney added, “It’s something they’ve heard through the years, you know, and now it’s the grandkids getting indoctrinated with my carols record.” Despite McCartney’s dislike of contemporary Christmas music, Nat King Cole’s 1960s hit Christmas song put McCartney in the mood every time it is played around the holidays.

He told the BBC, “Nat King Cole’s. So that is called ‘The Christmas Song’, but known by a lot of people as Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire. I think that’s my favorite.” “Nat King Cole’s version is so atmospheric,” McCartney also divulged.

Given these two Christmas facts about Paul McCartney, it’s safe to say he sides with the old-school Christmas music. Furthermore, Cole’s song is already a fan favorite and a staple of the holiday season. However, Paul McCarntey’s stamp of approval makes it all the more alluring and jolly. Lastly, McCartney covered Cole’s song in 2012 on the Holidays Rule compilation album.
