Darius Rucker still remembers the first time he heard himself on the radio. Between charting six top 40 hits with Hootie and the Blowfish to matching that success (and then some) in his solo country career, Rucker has built quite the career. And if he needed more evidence of his fame, the “Wagon Wheel” hitmaker recently had a laugh when a fan requested to have their photo taken—by none other than Woody Harrelson.

Darius Rucker Fan Makes a Photo Faux Pas
TikTok user Kahea Lane was ecstatic when she ran into Darius Rucker by chance at a bar. In fact, she was so overcome with excitement that she asked Rucker’s friend to snap a photo.
“Darius was laughing and kept saying, ‘”I’m going to tell this story,’” Lane wrote in a TikTok post.
Lane was confused until she saw other patrons queueing up for a photo op with Rucker’s friend. That friend, it turns out, was actor Woody Harrelson. Fortunately, the Natural Born Killers star left a selfie on Lane’s phone as a souvenir.
“Boyyyy I bet you couldn’t tell Darius Rucker a thing after that,” one TikTok user wrote.
It certainly seems to have been an ego boost for the Grammy Award winner. In fact, he reposted a clip from Today in a social media post captioned, “Still laughing.”

How Woody Harrelson Saved This Country Star’s Life
Darius Rucker and Woody Harrelson go way back. In fact, we may have never heard “Wagon Wheel” at all if not for the True Detective actor.
In his memoir Life’s Too Short, released last year, Rucker recounted a casual beach day with Harrelson that very nearly turned fatal.
Rucker, 58, took advantage of a break from touring in the late ’90s to hang around Hawaii with his actor buddy. At one point, Harrelson, 62, suggested the pair swim out to a small island—where Rucker would get stuck in a strong ocean current.
“I fight and flail for I have no idea how long — ten minutes, fifteen — and then I hear a voice. Woody,” Rucker wrote.
Unfortunately, Harrelson also found himself stuck when he came to Rucker’s aid. The pair tread water until a friend came to their rescue.
When the country star begged Harrelson to “let me go, man,” the actor replied, “Die? S—. Not on my watch.”
