3 Major Musicians Who Have Worked on Disney Soundtracks

1. Barry Manilow

Barry Manilow wrote “Perfect Isn’t Easy” for the Disney original Oliver & Company. Though Manilow didn’t perform this track–that duty was left up to Bette Midler–we still thought it apt to include his contribution to the Disney sphere, here.

Though many covet my bone and bowl
They’re barkin’ up the wrong tree
You pretty pups all over the city
I have your hearts and you have my pity
Pretty is nice, but still, it’s just pretty
Perfect, my dear

I have your hearts and you have my pity
Pretty is nice, but still, it’s just pretty
Perfect, my dear, is me

2. Phil Collins

Phil Collins’ soundtrack for Tarzan has bewildered people since 1999. The soundtrack is enticing from beginning to end, featuring the heart-warming “You’ll Be In My Heart” and the anthemic “Son of Man.” Collins made use of his drum skills on this deeply rhythmic album.

‘Cause you’ll be in my heart
Yes, you’ll be in my heart
From this day on
Now and forever more

You’ll be in my heart
No matter what they say
You’ll be here in my heart
Always

3. Elton John

One of the most famous instances of a mega star working on a Disney soundtrack is Elton John’s efforts for The Lion King. John and lyricist Tim Rice created a tracklist that has been beloved for generations. In many ways, these songs have transcended the Disney vehicle and become celebrated in their own right.

Let every creature go for broke and sing
Let’s hear it in the herd and on the wing
It’s gonna be King Simba’s finest fling

Oh, I just can’t wait to be king!
Oh, I just can’t wait to be king!
Oh I just can’t wait… to be king!
