Regardless of the exact reason, Bruce Howe passed away in his home country, as his reported place of death was in Semaphore, South Australia. Howe was an iconic bassist for the band Fraternity, which featured ACDC member Bon Scott and Scottish-Australian singer Jimmy Barnes. Howe’s musical contributions were extensive and resulted in a greater awareness of Australian rock ‘n’ roll.

The Life and Legacy of Bruce Howe

During his time with the band Fraternity, Howe helped the band write and release the No. 1 hits, “Seasons of Change” and “If You Got It.” Howe formed Fraternity in 1970 after his former band separated. Over the years, Fraternity has consisted of Howe, Barnes, Scott, John Bisset, and Tony Buettel.

Despite only existing for five years, Bruce Howe and Fraternity have remained a staple musical act in the greater Australian catalog. In addition to their two No. 1 hits, the band is known for their singles, “No Second Prize,” “Daylight,” “I’d Die To Be With You Tonight,” and “Working Class Man.” All of these songs charted in the top 15.

Even though Howe saw a lot of musical success, the more important facet of his life was the kind and selfless legacy he seemingly left behind. Bandmate Barnes wrote in his post, “Bruce was the first person I rang when I went solo” and “He played bass with my band and helped guide me through the early years of my career.” “He will be sadly missed. RIP Bruce. You were the most ferocious bass player I’ve ever heard,” added Barnes.

Bruce Howe’s music will surely live on. Although, the chart-topping bassist will also be lived on by his son, JJ, and his grandchildren, Jack and Jasmin. If you haven’t listened to Bruce Howe, do. You will not only find great music but also spread the legacy of a phenomenal Australian musician.
