At face value, the dichotomy of Willie Nelson and Cher fans is about as opposite as night and day. In other words, you’re kind-hearted wholesome mother likes Cher, whereas your fun uncle likes Willie Nelson. Well, the fans’ interpretation is not too far off, as Cher seemingly viewed Willie Nelson as a bit too rock ‘n’ roll. Though, she was still incredibly complimentary of the Red-Headed Stranger.

The majority of folks know what Willie Nelson’s music and disposition stood for and encompassed. On the contrary, Cher was a commercial success thanks to her light-hearted and somewhat wholesome appeal. Though, for Cher, this wasn’t seemingly a commercial choice. Rather, it was a characteristic she upheld in her daily life. And that characteristic revealed itself when she walked on Nelson’s tour bus once upon a time.
Why Cher Wasn’t a Fan of Willie Nelson’s “Terrible Old Bus”
Just from the headlines, surely you Willie Nelson fans are frothing at the mouth with rage, but don’t jump to conclusions quite yet. In an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Cher transparently shared her thoughts on both Willie Nelson and his tour bus. She told Clarkson, “Oh my God, I’ve been on Willie Nelson’s bus, It smells exactly like marijuana.”
Now, you probably are all thinking, well of course it does. Though, that was not the only detail Cher had to share about her short-lived experience on Nelson’s tour bus. She added, “It was a terrible old bus, but he was great. ” Cher continued, “[There was] just drugs everywhere.” Cher seemingly didn’t mean any judgment by the claim, nor was she alluding to any other drugs besides marijuana. Though, regardless of what she was trying to articulate, it is a pretty hilarious thought to imagine Cher on Willie Nelson’s tour bus clutching her pearls.
Unsurprisingly, Nelson adores his tour bus, as it has been an essential part of his career since his solo stint began. Matter of fact, Nelson told SXSW, “Every now and then, I go and sit in it just to pretend I’m going somewhere.” “When I’m home, I probably don’t sleep on the bus that much, but when I’m out on the road, I sleep on the bus all the time. I never go inside, because I’ve got everything I need on the bus,” concluded Nelson.
Other than the humor embedded in this story, it also hopefully reminds you about the stylistic differences within the music industry. After all, there is only one Willie Nelson and one Cher, and they are both one of a kind.
