Tyler the Creator Concert Canceled After Two People Killed Due to Crane Collapse

Having to cancel a concert seemed to always be the last resort for singers and bands. Knowing the lengths fans go to see their favorite performer on stage, singers are known to perform sick, exhausted, and even during times of hardship. Always wanting to put on the perfect show, Tyler the Creator was excited to travel to Mexico City for the AXE Ceremonia music festival. But sadly, tragedy struck when a crane accidentally collapsed, killing two people. Happening the day before Tyler the Creator was expected to take the stage, the artist decided to cancel the concert.

The accident took place when a strong gust of wind hit the venue and the crane. Only there to hold up a decorative piece for the festival, the crane suddenly toppled over, hitting photographers Berenice Giles and Miguel Angel Rojas. According to authorities, both individuals were treated at the scene and quickly transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Sadly, both passed away.

Tyler The Creator Concert Canceled As Charli XCX Still Performed

Releasing a statement about the incident, AXE Ceremonia wrote, “With deep sadness, we confirm the passing of the two people who were injured during today’s incident.” The festival continued, “We are deeply heartbroken by this loss. We are reaching out to their families to support them during this incredibly difficult time and to provide them with all our care and solidarity. The safety of our community has always been our priority, and we continue, as from the very beginning, to maintain close collaboration and complete transparency with the authorities.”

Surprisingly, the festival continued on Saturday after the crane fell. The festival welcomed performers like Charli XCX and Tomorrow X Together. Although fans loved both performances, authorities and the local mayor decided to cancel the Sunday shows over the incident. In another statement, the festival insisted, “The activities scheduled for today have been suspended, following the guidelines of the relevant authorities. Our sympathy and support go out to their families and loved ones during this difficult time.”

For fans who bought a ticket for the canceled performance, the festival promised that refunds would be handed out through Ticketmaster.
