Kenny Chesney Went Above and Beyond for Megan Moroney’s End-Of-Tour Gift

With hit songs like “Tennessee Orange” and “Am I Okay?” Megan Moroney is rapidly ascending the country music ladder. The CMA’s reigning New Artist of the Year, 27, caught the attention of country legend Kenny Chesney, who invited her on last year’s Sun Goes Down Tour as his opening act. As the two grew especially close during their time on the road together, the “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” crooner wanted to get her an extra-special end-of-tour gift. And according to Moroney, he succeeded.

Kenny Chesney Had to Sneakily Deliver Megan Moroney’s Present

Megan Moroney took many things away from her time on tour with Kenny Chesney—namely, “ice bathing and sauna’ing,” the “No Caller ID” singer revealed during a recent appearance on the Taste of Country Nights podcast.

Now that she shares his addiction, the Country Music Hall of Fame inductee paid for Moroney to have her own personal sauna installed in her Nashville home. What’s more, he even managed to surprise her with it, somehow.

“He actually had someone come and custom-build it to my house,” Moroney said. “Apparently they had to do it when I wasn’t in town, I don’t know how he snuck around. I guess it was someone on my team that helped?”

While the Sun Goes Down Tour wrapped up in August, the pair’s friendship has endured. “Pure joy all summer. Onstage and off,” Chesney wrote in a sweet comment on Moroney’s Instagram page. “God I’m gonna miss it. I didn’t know you 5 months ago. Now I can’t imagine not having you in my life… It was one of the highlights of my life becoming friends with you. I sure love Megan Moroney.”

How Their New Collab Came to Be

To the excitement of all who love them, Megan Moroney and Kenny Chesney recently announced that their new duet, “You Had to Be There,” drops Friday, May 9.

During her Taste of Country Nights interview, Moroney revealed that she wrote the song for Chesney as a thank you after the Sun Goes Down tour. However, she had to rely on liquid courage to pitch “You Had to Be There” to the four-time Entertainer of the Year.

“There were definitely some pain killers involved — which, pain killers are a St. John’s drink, I’m not talking about taking pain killers,” she said.
