Before Chris Stapleton was one of the biggest solo acts in country music, he was a songwriter who pumped out hit songs while looming in the shadows. Yes, Chris Stapleton was a songwriter who wrote monster songs for just about everybody worth a sweat in country music. That being said, some of the most iconic country songs from the early 2000s and 2010s can be credited to none other than Chris Stapleton.

Other artists to kickstart their careers as songwriters include HARDY, Ernest, Willie Nelson, Maren Morris, Lee Brice, and several others. Needless to say, it is a viable way of achieving success, and it is one of the many things that helped Chris Stapleton become one of the greatest country musicians of all time. Also, it certainly helped that he wrote these three hit singles for other artists.
“Drink A Beer” by Luke Bryan
Chris Stapleton would likely not release a song of this nature under his own name. It’s just not who he is. However, Stapleton is talented enough to embody the voice of other artists, and he did so on this staple Luke Bryan tune.
Released in 2013, the Chris Stapleton-written song scored Bryan loads upon loads of success. Following its release, the single peaked at no. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart and at no. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. Furthermore, the song also marked a major moment for Bryan, as he debuted it at the 2013 CMA Awards.
“Love’s Gonna Make It Alright” by George Strait
George Strait has never been one to write his own songs. Consequently, he has had some of the best songwriters in the world write some of his biggest hits, and Chris Stapleton is one of them. Released in 2011, the single became Strait’s 85th consecutive Top 10 hit on the Hot Country Songs chart.
Specifically, Strait’s single peaked at no. 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and at no. 99 on the Billboard Hot 100. Lastly, the single helped the album, Here For a Good Time, peak at no. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart.
“Never Wanted Nothing More” by Kenny Chesney
When you look at Stapleton’s catalog, it is kind of hard to believe he wrote such successful pop country hits. Though again, this fact just goes to show how talented the man truly is. Kenny Chesney has had a plethora of hit singles. However, when it comes to the 2000s, this is unarguably one of his most successful.
Released in 2007, Chesney’s “Never Wanted Nothing More” peaked at no. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. In addition to its successful chart run, it also won the 2008 CMA Song of the Year Award and the ASCAP Country Song of the Year Award.
