“God Bless Toby Keith”: Kameron Marlowe Delivers Tribute Cover of “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue” at Sand in My Boots Festival

Back in February 2024, country music lost an icon when Toby Keith passed away at the age of 62. Releasing his last album, Peso in My Pocket, back in 2021, the country legend struggled with stomach cancer. Ultimately leading to his death, the singer landed into the Country Music Hall of Fame just a few hours after his passing. In the days and weeks that followed, countless country singers and even actors took a moment to celebrate the life and legacy of Keith. And even now, singers like Kameron Marlowe continue to shine a light on the one they called “Big Dog Daddy.”

Already recording the song “Sand In My Boots”, Morgan Wallen decided to form an entire music festival called Sand In My Boots. Running from May 16th to May 18th, the festival took over Gulf Shores, Alabama, with singers like Riley Green, T-Pain, Three 6 Mafia, ERNEST, Brooks & Dune, Hardy, Wallen, Marlowe, and even Post Malone. With three days full of great music, sunshine, and beaches, the festival drew a massive crowd. And when taking the stage, Marlowe never forgot the singer who inspired many country artists.

Just as Marlowe was finishing a tribute to Keith with a cover of “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue”, the singer declared, “God bless America, God bless our troops out there, and God bless Toby Keith one time.” The crowd in attendance erupted into cheers as Marlowe waved to the crowd one last time while celebrating one of the biggest names in country music.

Not The First Time Kameron Marlow Celebrated Toby Keith

Not all that surprising, it wasn’t the first time Marlowe wanted to showcase his love for Keith. When performing at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, he once again decided to cover “Courtesy Of The Red, White, and Blue.”

USO Honors Toby Keith With Spirit Of The USO Award

As for Keith, he always jumped at the chance to give back to the men and women who served in the armed forces. Working alongside the USO, the country icon performed nearly 300 shows in places like Iraq, Guam, Afghanistan, and even Kyrgyzstan.

Due to his commitment to the military, Keith received the Spirit of the USO Award from former USO President and retired Air Force Brigadier General John I. Pray Jr. At the time, he said, “On behalf of the USO and the Academy of Country Music, I am honored to present the Spirit of the USO Award tonight to Toby Keith, whose extraordinary passion for, and support of, our men and women in uniform and their families best exemplifies the ideals and mission of the USO by being ‘by their side wherever they serve.’”

While passing away over a year ago, Keith’s legacy and love for America remained a highlight in country music and the USO.
