The 1980s were quite a time. Rock music was evolving, fashion was cool, the Cold War had everyone freaking out, and the world was technologically advancing, but not quite far enough to make social media and smartphones the center of the universe. It was an easier, yet more anxious era. And anyone who grew up in the 80s likely remembers the music quite well. There was a lot of good music during this time. Let’s take a look at a few nostalgic 80s tunes that anyone who was young in the 80s will remember!

“Feed Me With Your Kiss” by My Bloody Valentine
If you’re a Gen Xer with a love for shoegaze today, you probably fondly remember the release of this 1988 hit from My Bloody Valentine. That feedback loop of noise, Belinda Butcher’s otherworldly vocals, that high-powered drumming. Few songs scratched that shoegaze itch quite like “Feed Me With Your Kiss” did.
“Take On Me” by A-Ha
Let’s be real, even people who were born well after the 1980s came to an end know this nostalgic 80s song. It just has that kind of enduring power to it. But if you were growing up in the 80s when this came out, you were probably blown away by it.
“Take On Me” by A-Ha is a classic, not just musically, but also in terms of pop culture. This synth-pop delight was released in 1984 and quickly became the Norwegian band’s biggest signature hit. Though, they would fail to reach the charts as substantially in the United States again.
“Rock Me Amadeus” by Falco
Another classic from the mid-1980s, “Rock Me Amadeus” by Falco was an international hit when it was first released. A standout addition to the Neue Deutsche Welle genre, this synth delight was a big hit for Austrian artist Falco in 1985.
The song is a classic in more than one sense. It’s all about famed composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and it was one of the first songs to bridge the gap, so to speak, between classical music and the new wave era. This is one of the most nostalgic 80s songs out there, and I doubt there’s a Gen Xer out there who can fight the urge to belt out that chorus when it comes on.
