While Luke Combs released his latest album, Fathers & Sons, just last year, the country singer took a little time away from the spotlight to focus on his family. Thanking fans for their continued support, it appeared the country star couldn’t stay away from the recording studio too long as he released the music video for his new song “Back in the Saddle.” And apparently, he needed a little help from none other than Dale Earnhardt Jr. himself.

Posted on his official YouTube channel just a few hours ago, the music video for “Back in the Saddle” already climbed over 40,000 views. That number was sure to climb in the coming days. Combs decided to travel to Granite Falls, North Carolina, to film the video at the Tri-County Motor Speedway. Giving the video a vintage look, the idea to embrace the world of NASCAR didn’t come from Combs but from Earnhardt Jr.

Luke Combs Included More Than Dale Earnhardt Jr. In “Back In The Saddle”
During pre-production, Combs reached out to the NASCAR driver to ask him if he wanted to be in the video. Jumping at the chance, the racer had some ideas of his own. “Well, basically Luke texted me and said, ‘Hey man, I’m gonna do a music video for this song.’ He sent me the song, he said, ‘Would you wanna be in it?’ I said, ‘Yes, absolutely.’ And so we started talking about what we would do, where we would do it. They thought, man you know, let’s get Next Gen car and go to Charlotte Motor Speedway.”
Sitting down with Combs, Earnhardt Jr. pitched his idea of mixing country and NASCAR. Loving the idea, the music video found its setting. “So we went to Tri-County Motor Speedway, which is about an hour and 15 minutes from the house. We wrapped two of our late model cars identically, so we’d have one car with all the windows out of it and a bunch of cameras mounted all over it and then another car that looked clean and you could film the car from a distance.”
The finished result was nothing short of perfection. With Combs’ lyrics and Earnhardt Jr.’s racing, “Back in the Saddle” already gained praise from fans. Taking many of them on a trip down memory lane, one person wrote, “What a beautiful song and tribute. Jr. & the King. Two great living racing legends.”
Outside of just Earnhardt Jr., the music video also featured two other NASCAR legends, Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr. Although Earnhardt Sr. passed away in 2001, his quote, “You win some, lose some, and wreck some,” appeared in the tunnel leading to the track.
