“Another Day and I’d Be Playing Drums With Lemmy in Heaven”: Motörhead’s Mikkey Dee Shares Health Update After Nearly Dying

Since the 1980s, Mikkey Dee explored a career as a drummer in the music industry. Having grown with influences like Neil Peart, Buddy Rich, and Ian Paice, Dee eventually found his way to the stage. And from 1992 to 2015, the drummer performed alongside the legendary heavy metal band Motörhead. Departing from the group, Dee landed in the German heavy metal band Scorpions in 2016. Continuing to travel and perform with Scorpions, the drummer recently explained his ongoing recovery from a bacterial blood infection.

Sharing an update with fans on Facebook, Dee recalled the last several weeks and his fight with sepsis. Although a stressful time in his life, the drummer started off his message by thanking fans for their support and holiday wishes. He then wrote, “This holiday season, I have been hospitalized with a very serious blood infection (Sepsis). I was admitted for three weeks but now I am home fighting this bastard bacteria. Thankfully, I have received fantastic care at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, my hometown. So thanks a million to all the Doctors and Nurses that have been giving me the most excellent care.”

Although a scary situation, Dee promised to be on the road to recovery. “After several operations, I am now back home and the numbers are all going in the right direction. Still lots of recovery and rehab in front of me.”

Back in December, Dee had a near-death experience after spraining his foot. After intense swelling, Dee underwent emergency surgery that he claims saved his life.

”They cut away what was dead and infected and badly infested. It was not a good journey I was on… Another day and I’d be playing drums with Lemmy in heaven. I can say that,” Dee told Sweden’s Aftonbladet newspaper (via Yahoo).

Mikkey Dee Looking Forward To Getting Back To Performing With Scorpions

While still focusing on his recovery, Dee insisted he would return to the stage once again. “Now I’m working a 100% to be back on the drum stool for the Residency that starts off in Las Vegas on February 27. We have a tremendous 2025 to look forward to, celebrating 60 years of Scorpions and many exciting giggs around the world.”

Looking forward to February, Scorpions will not only take over Las Vegas, but it will mark the group’s 60th anniversary. With such a monumental moment in the band’s history, Dee isn’t about to miss it.

Fans rallied around Dee and his ongoing recovery, writing, “’I’ve always loved your energy and enthusiasm, behind the kit and in front of it. I’m sorry to hear of this infection. I wish you a complete and fast as possible recovery. Keep on Rockin’, because you really know how to do it!”
