Backstreet Boys’ Brian Littrell Speaks Out on Son Baylee Littrell’s ‘American Idol’ Exit

Baylee Littrell was just 8 or 9 years old when he first opened for dad Brian’s band, The Backstreet Boys. Enjoying his time in the spotlight, Baylee decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue a career in music. Auditioning for season 23 of American Idol, the 22-year-old made an impressive run that sadly ended just shy of the Top 14. Having already supported his son every step of the way, Brian Littrell and former bandmate Kevin Richardson publicly showed that they remain in Baylee’s corner.

Backstreet Boys’ Brian Littrell Offers Encouraging Words to His Son After ‘American Idol’ Elimination

Taking the stage Easter Sunday (April 20) for American Idol’s first-ever “Songs of Faith” special, Baylee Littrell delivered an emotional rendition of his dad’s 2006 song “Gone Without Goodbye.”

Unfortunately, the performance wasn’t quite enough to vault him into the Top 14. Littrell was among six Idol hopefuls who saw their journey come to an end Monday (April 21.) Taking to social media the next day, the rising artist reflected on his time with the show.

“My American Idol journey has come to an end,” wrote Baylee Littrell. “Thank you so much to all that supported me this season. I love you all.”

In the comments, Brian Littrell made it clear that he was far from disappointed with his son’s showing on American Idol. “Bubba I am and always will be in your corner. [You] are so strong and so very talented, and inspire me every day,” wrote the Backstreet Boy, 50.

He continued, “It’s never the end, only the beginning for so many to be blessed by your gifts….. You killed it last night.”

Kevin Richardson, Littrell’s cousin and also a member of the iconic ’90s boy band, also weighed in. “”So glad you got to experience this,” he wrote. “Proud of you young man. Your journey has just begun…”

Carrie Underwood Opens Up On Tough Call

Thanks to fan votes, 10 Idol hopefuls automatically advanced to the Top 14. Afterwards, judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood were tasked to deciding which four to save and which six to send home.

Ultimately, Baylee Littrell saw his Idol journey come to an end. And first-time judge Underwood was honest when Entertainment Tonight asked if Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell, would be mad at her for eliminating his son.

“Don’t think it didn’t cross my mind,” she said.

Added the “Before He Cheats” singer, 42: “Brian’s wonderful. I’ve had the chance to speak with him numerous times over the years and Baylee’s so good.”

Of his elimination, she said, “It was one of those things that it’s like, we try to think of what people want to see.”
