Bill Crook—bassist for the band Spiritbox from 2018 to 2022—has died, according to a social media post by his friend Kai Turmann, guitarist and vocalist for the band A Textbook Tragedy. Turmann made the post at the request of Crook’s mother, as stated in the caption.
“I have some absolutely devastating news to share. I’m so profoundly sad to say that our dear friend Bill Crook has passed away,” Turmann wrote in the Instagram post. “He was a friend to so many, and a dear friend to me since we were children. Bill was, and is, loved by so many people, and I’m so incredible sorry to have to share this devastating information with you.”

Turmann concluded with, “There will be many words and many tears, but for now I just need to get the terrible news out. I’m so sorry. I love you all. I love you Bill.”
The statement was captioned, “There will be lots of memories shared in the coming days, weeks and months. For now, his Mom has asked me to inform everyone. I’m so sorry to have to share this news with you all. Sending love to everyone who knew and loved Bill.”
Former Spiritbox Bassist Bill Crook Dies, No Further Details Released
Crook was a member of Spiritbox beginning in 2018, and appeared on their debut 2021 album Eternal Blue. In 2022, the band announced Crook’s departure, stating that it was “mutual with no hard feelings.” He was replaced by Josh Gilbert, former bassist of As I Lay Dying.
According to Bill Crook’s social media, he was working on a new project with Aaron Gillespie of Underoath. He posted a video of himself and Gillespie in the studio with the caption, “72 hours … 6 [Sonic Drive-In] orders … 0 beers … .5 mental breakdowns … 3 new songs … Thank you [Aaron Gillespie] for helping me bring these ideas to life.”
According to social media, Courtney LaPlante and Mike Stringer of Spiritbox have paid tribute to their former bassist on Instagram stories. Additionally, Pale Chord, the band’s record label, requested “time and space” for the band to process the loss.
