Singer Max Zanelly, drummer Bryce Weston, and bassist David Rodriguez have been announced as the newest lineup additions, with Ginn continuing to take on his role as the band’s guitarist.

“BLACK FLAG is entering a new era,” the caption reads. “And we’re hyped to welcome three incredible new members.”

Fans in the comment section of the post are understandably excited.

“GREG = BLACK FLAG,” said one fan. “Like Iommi = Sabbath. He’s the only that never abandoned ship and wrote all riffs.”

“Greg is Black Flag and I can’t wait for this new era,” said another. “Hopefully the vocalist has unique vocals instead of copying Henry. I don’t mind [a] new vocalist, as long as they sound good the music must go on.”

Black Flag Is Finally Releasing New Music After 12 Years Without New Work

Along with the announcement of the brand new lineup, Black Flag also teased some new music in their recent Instagram post.

“The new lineup is already in the studio and the rehearsal space,” the caption of the post mentioned. “Writing, jamming, and bringing fresh energy.”

This recent resurrection is a big deal, considering the last time Ginn staged a comeback for Black Flag was way back in 2013. Then, the band released What The… and that album was met with a lackluster reception. Even Ginn himself acknowledged that the album could have been better.

Since that release, the legacy of Black Flag has been riddled with negativity and some interpersonal drama. Shortly after What The… was released, vocalist Ron Reyes was fired from the band and went on to publicly accuse Ginn of child abuse, along with Ginn’s ex-wife Marina. Court records were thrown around online, and the situation was made even worse by the revelation that Ginn had sued four of his former Black Flag bandmates for using the name “Flag” and violating Black Flag’s trademark.

It appears as though those debacles have since been settled. Now, it looks like Ginn is going to give Black Flag a shot once again. Some fans are understandably wary, considering how much of a mess that last release was. Here’s hoping they’re successful this time around. Hardcore punk could stand to have a resurgence in the 2020s.
