Blake Shelton is known for many things—being a massive country star, owning a chain of bars named after a dog, being Gwen Stefani’s husband—but he’s also known as a certified jokester, a role he perfected during his time on The Voice. There, he struck up a bromance with Adam Levine, and the two would regularly clown each other.

Sitting down with American Songwriter recently, Shelton shared his thoughts about The Voice, particularly when it comes to Adam Levine, who has returned for the recent season. When asked how he felt about Levine having a country singer on his team, Shelton had some opinions.
“Adam has probably been the most brilliant country coach ever on The Voice,” he said, shockingly. Unsurprisingly, he then added, “and the stupidest one … at the same time.”
Now there’s more of that frenemy relationship we’ve all grown to love.
Shelton then elaborated. “Think about this,” he said. “Adam chose Morgan Wallen to be on his team on The Voice [season six]. And in the very next episode, cut Morgan Wallen off of the show. I mean, that is dumb,” he said, with emphasis on the last word.
Blake Shelton Clowns Adam Levine for Cutting Morgan Wallen from Season 6 of The Voice
Now, to be fair, Morgan Wallen wasn’t yet Morgan Wallen as we know him today. He wasn’t selling out stadiums and getting 31 songs on the Country Chart all at the same time. Back then, he was just starting out, and clearly, Adam Levine didn’t think he had it in him to make it on The Voice. Levine’s loss was Wallen’s gain, though. Being on the show evidently earned him enough recognition to help launch his country career.
Still, hindsight is 20/20. It’s possible that Levine is glad to see Wallen where he is now, but there could also be a part of him that wishes he hadn’t cut him from his team way back in 2014. Almost 10 years later, and Blake Shelton is not letting Levine forget his misstep.
