More About Dead & Company

Dead & Company was formed in 2015 to celebrate the music of the Grateful Dead. The original lineup featured three core Grateful Dead members—singer/guitarist Bobby Weir, and drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Micky Hart—as well as singer/guitarist John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge, and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. Kreutzmann departed the group in 2023 and was replaced by Jay Lane.

Dead & Company wrapped up a final tour in July 2023. Since then, though, the band has played 48 Las Vegas residency shows at the Sphere venue in 2024 and 2025. The group wrapped up its most recent series of residency dates on May 17.

More About the Grateful Dead’s 60th Anniversary Celebrations

In November 2024, Weir, Hart, and Kreutzmann revealed in an CBS Mornings interview that they’d been planning to celebrate the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary with some reunion performances with founding bassist Phil Lesh before Lesh died in October at age 84.

The old bandmates said at the time that they weren’t sure if they would go ahead with the reunion shows without Lesh, although Kreutzmann said that he still was open to playing with the others to mark the anniversary. It hasn’t been announced if Kreutzmann will join Dead & Company at the San Francisco shows.

Meanwhile, a couple of special releases have also been prepared in honor of the anniversary.

A massive 60-CD box set titled Enjoying the Ride will be released on May 30. The collection explores key live moments in the band’s history. It includes performances spanning from 1969 through 1994, recorded at 20 different venues across the U.S.

Most of the recordings on Enjoying the Ride are previously unreleased. The box set features more than 450 tracks, with a running time exceeding 60 hours.

Then, on June 13, the band will release its first-ever official greatest-hits compilation, the aptly titled Gratest Hits. The compilation will feature nine of the San Francisco group’s most popular and recognizable tunes.
