Explosion at Texas Tech Campus Causes Mass Evacuations, Postponement of Brooks & Dunn Concert

While no singer or band ever wanted to cancel a concert, sometimes life gets in the way. Looking back over recent years, stars postponed concerts due to sickness, a family emergency, or just needing a break from the rigorous schedule. But for Brooks & Dunn, they looked forward to stopping by Texas Tech University to help kick off their 2025 Neon Moon Tour. Hoping to celebrate their long career in the music industry with fans, a mysterious explosion caused authorities to postpone the concert.

Although listing some of the reasons performers postponed shows, an explosion is a new one. On Thursday, March 13, Brooks & Dunn prepared to take the stage at the United Supermarket Arena in Lubbock, Texas. But that concert never happened due to safety concerns. For fans who happened to have a ticket to the show, don’t worry, Brooks & Dunn already announced the new concert would happen on March 20th. 

According to reports and video, green flames engulfed a a maintenance hole as workers looked on at the Engineering Key section of the Texas Tech University. Making sure to keep teachers, students, and visitors safe, university police moved to cut off the power to the campus as firefighters rushed to secure the flames. The university also canceled classes for the rest of the week.

Brooks & Dunn Looked Ahead To Neon Moon Tour

With the video making its rounds on social media, many weighed in on the flames, offering suggestions as to what the fire could be. “When burning, copper compounds (like copper sulfate) and boron compounds (like boric acid) are known to produce a green flame color.” And one person hilariously added, “Either ghost busters or the Ninja turtles are about to happen.”

Knowing that the schedule change could cause some fans of Brooks & Dunn not to attend, Texas Tech announced they would refund the tickets at the point of purchase. 

As for Brooks & Dunn, they looked ahead at their Neon Moon Tour, which had them traveling all over Texas. The tour is expected to run into April, with the country duo celebrating their long history in music.
