George Strait is likely the most decorated and commercially successful country musician of all time. Ever since he hit it big in the ’80s, Strait has been selling out venues across the country and the globe. He’s just that contagious. However, during his recent show in Philadelphia, Strait revealed that he doesn’t have much longer until he calls it quits.

In 2014, George Strait announced that the Cowboy Rides Away tour would be his final full-time tour. Since that announcement, Strait has toured select cities and select sold-out stadiums across the country. Currently, Strait is doing that very thing, as he plans on playing four more dates up until July 19 with Chris Stapleton, Little Big Town, and Parker McCollum.
George Strait has been touring as a solo act ever since the ’80s. Hence, it is no surprise that the man is showing signs of slowing down. He might be the King of Country Music, but even Kings fall. After all, he is human, and the human body can only do this type of thing for so long.
George Strait Lays It All Out There for Philadelphia Fans
This last weekend, George Strait and Chris Stapleton played a show at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The show was impeccable, as one might expect, and Chris Stapleton even played a brief cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird.” However, the most memorable moment of the evening is when George Strait broke the fourth wall and spoke with the fans about his future touring plans.
During the show, Strait stated, “I have maybe five good years to sing my songs for you folks. But hell, it’s been around 50 now and I still love it just as much as I ever did. When I hear ol’ John Michael say my name and I walk through those curtains and I see your smiling faces, my feet don’t touch the ground again until I walk back out and get on that bus.”
“I don’t know how many more years I can do this. I figure a few, and “I do want you to know though, when I do walk off this stage and I’m settled in far away from all of this, you won’t be far away. I’ll still hear your screams and cheers in my mind, and I will always remember you,” concluded Strait.
Per Strait’s comments, this is seemingly the beginning of the end. Though, in the meantime, let us all enjoy what George “The King of Country Music” Strait has left in the tank.
