“I Have Loved Since I First Shook His Hand”: Ashley McBryde Mourns an “Unthinkable Tragedy”

Years ago in January 2022, Ashley McBryde participated in the wedding of her beloved friend Tyler Persun. Recently, Persun tragically passed away at the age of 35 and left behind his four-month-old son, Colby, and his wife, Brielle.

McBryde has been acquainted with the Persun family for quite some time, as her social media features several photos of her and the couple. However, McBryde hasn’t divulged her connection to the family. Nonetheless, McBryde’s connection with the family is strong enough to have left her heartbroken.

Ashley McBryde Starts a GoFundMe and Takes to Instagram

In light of the tragic news, Ashley McBryde took to Instagram to spread awareness and hopefully garner some funds for the family in need. She stated in her post, “We put our arms around each other during this time of unthinkable tragedy” and “I’d say more but I just don’t have the words.”

She continued, “I got to hug this hunk of a man whom I have loved since I first shook his hand.” The photo accompanying this line includes Tyler, Brielle, and McBryde on their wedding day. In addition to the comments, McBryde also shared a link to a GoFundMe page. A GoFundMe that aims to support both Briella and Colby with general living expenses as they suffer this loss.

Tyler Persun passed away on January 10, 2025. Ashley McBryde did not disclose Tyler’s cause of death. In lighter news, McBryde recently celebrated 900 days of sobriety and is gearing up for 2025 tour. Furthermore, 2024 marked a very successful year for McBryde as she received a CMA Nomination and is garnering quite a bit of success with her song, “Ain’t Enough Cowboy Songs.”

Regarding the 2025 tour, McBryde will embark on her country-wide tour starting on January 17 in Newark, New Jersey. Despite her upcoming schedule and recent success, McBryde will surely not forget the legacy and life of her near and dear friend, Tyler Persun.
