Kelly Clarkson has been focusing most of her energy on her personal life and her daytime talk show. However, she still shows off her impressive pipes on a regular basis. The Kellyoke segment on her show allows Clarkson to bring top-notch covers of songs she loves to her audience. Yesterday (February 13), she turned up the heat on the set with Riley Green’s “Worst Way.”

There’s no two ways around it, “Worst Way” is an incredibly sultry song. Clarkson created the perfect vibe for the song with red mood lighting on the stage. Then, she knocked her cover of the song out of the park. Her powerhouse vocal delivery, the song’s lyrics, and her band’s performance made for a stunning combination.

“That was Riley Green’s ‘Worst Way.’ He released it last year and one critic called it a ‘Steamy Little number,’” Clarkson said after finishing the Kellyoke segment. “Riley recently said performing that song is one of the biggest moments in his live shows. I love him. I dig him. You should check him out,” she added.
Kelly Clarkson Picked the Perfect Time to Cover “Worst Way”
Kelly Clarkson couldn’t have picked a better time to cover “Worst Way.” It’s not just that it’s a “steamy little number” that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day. Green just released a music video for the song earlier this week.
The “Worst Way” video dropped on Wednesday (February 12) and it’s just as steamy as the song. To say that Green’s fans are loving it would be an understatement. The clip has already garnered nearly 1.5 million streams.
Green found inspiration for “Worst Way” in “Like a Wrecking Ball” by Eric Church. “I wrote a song years ago and it was called ‘When She Comes Home Tonight’ and it’s that type of sexy love song thing, which I don’t tend to do a lot,” Green said in an interview. He was pairing his original with a cover of Church’s song in his sets. Then, he started playing to bigger crowds and wanted to replace the cover with an original with the same sultry vibe.
Green also looked to songs like “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” by John Mayer. “Something about that was so cool to make it country and make it my own. I would’ve never thought that songs would be as big as it has been, but it’s had a whole moment,” he said.
Between the new video and Clarkson’s cover, it looks like “Worst Way” is having another moment.
