Kristina Murray Taps into Hard Times with Standout Track “Fool’s Gold” from Her Forthcoming Album ‘Little Blue’ (Exclusive Premiere)

Country singer/songwriter Kristina Murray is set to release her New West Records/Normaltown debut, Little Blue on May 9. Today, American Songwriter is proud to premiere “Fool’s Gold,” one of several highlights on the forthcoming 9-track release.

While some country fans who frequent bars in East Nashville may know Murray’s name, she remains criminally underrated, underappreciated, and unknown in the larger country music world. A Nashville veteran, she has been in Music City paying dues for over a decade. She helped to create Honky Tonk Tuesdays and was one of the first women to lead a band at the legendary East Nashville dive bar Santa’s Pub, paving the way for others.

Murray currently has two albums under her belt. She released her debut album Unravelin’ in 2013 and followed it with Southern Ambrosia in 2018. Each new release shows the world an artist who pours blood, sweat, and tears into honing her craft and Little Blue is no different. “Fool’s Gold” is a perfect example of the careful craftsmanship in Murray’s work.

Ahead of today’s premiere, Kristina Murray took a moment to speak to American Songwriter about “Fool’s Gold.”

The song, she said, was “Sparked by a gray, rainy summer day after fun plans had to be canceled.” She added, “I came up with the line, How does a woman stop it from raining all day as a metaphorical rhetorical about all the silent, unseen burdens placed on Woman.”

Unlike most of her songs, “Fool’s Gold” came to Murray easily. “The song came really fast from there, digging into my own depression at the time,” she recalled. “The piano playing on this track makes it feel like you’re floating on a cloud and I was honored to have my friend and incredibly singer/songwriter Erin Rae lend her vocals to this song’s backing vocals,” she added.
