Back in 2024, Wilson dropped her fifth studio album with Whirlwind. Coming packed with 14 songs that Wilson helped write, the album featured hits like “Hang Tight Honey” and “4x4xU.” Thanks to the success of the album, the singer will release a deluxe version of the album on August 22, 2025. And on the deluxe version will be the song “Somewhere Over Lardeo.” Sharing the music video of the song, it appeared that Wilson drew a great deal of inspiration from The Wizard of Oz

Discussing her inspiration behind the music video, the country singer told People, “ I had not had the opportunity to make a video that I felt like deserved that kind of trippiness. When you think about The Wizard of Oz, and you think about the “Yellow Brick Road,” of course, you think of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and this [song] is an interpolation of that. It’s a way for us to tip our hat to that and acknowledge how timeless of a song that is.”

Lainey Wilson Brings Special Guest On Her Trip To “Somewhere Over Laredo”

While the song featured unique visuals that included Wilson waking up in a field, falling through the air that resembled cotton candy, and chasing down an airplane on horseback, some fans might have noticed a special appearance from a French bulldog. And before you even ask – “That’s my dog. Her name is Hippie Mae Wilson, and I’m so proud. My little French Bulldog. I’m a proud dog mom. She can do no wrong. When it came to the storyline, it was [the filmmakers.] Having Hippie involved came from me.”

Outside of taking a trip to “Somewhere Over Laredo”, Wilson was already gearing up for her next project. “I have been writing some songs. It has been so much fun. Even in the past couple weeks, I’ve been feeling very inspired. We’re trying to figure out which direction we are going, but the more songs that I write for the project, it seems like it’s going to happen.” The hitmaker admitted she wanted to write 100 songs and then cut it down to 12 to 15 songs.

The Stars Lainey Wilson Would Love To Collaborate With

Given that Wilson collaborated with Lambert on “Good Horses”, the country star’s next project was sure to have a few guests. And according to Wilson,  “I would love to do something with Miley Cyrus, of course. I mean, I used to impersonate Hannah Montana. So, I always say Miley, and I’m going to keep saying it until we do something together. When it comes to country, I’d love to do something with Chris Stapleton, Eric Church, the list goes on and on.”

With her future bright and Hippie Mae by her side, Wilson continued to add her voice and unique style to the history of country music.
