Lainey Wilson Debuts “Somewhere Over Laredo” at the 2025 American Music Awards

As families across the United States wrapped up their Memorial Day celebrations, some of the biggest names in music gathered in Las Vegas for another celebration. Tonight (May 26), the American Music Awards brought some of the world’s brightest stars to the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. Lainey Wilson was one of the few country artists to take the stage during the event.

Wilson took the AMAs stage to debut her new single “Somewhere Over Laredo.” So, those gathered in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the countless people watching from home were the first to see the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year perform the song live.

The “4X4XU” singer took the stage clad in white, her cape fluttering in a light breeze on the stage as clouds moved across the screens surrounding the stage. Fog effects made the award-winning country superstar look as if she were standing on cloud nine.

Wilson won big at the Academy of Country Music Awards earlier this month. She took home Entertainer of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Artist-Songwriter of the Year. Tonight, she’s looking to take home the AMA Award for Favorite Female Country Artist.

Lainey Wilson Discusses Her New Single

Lainey Wilson co-wrote her latest single with Andy Albert, Dallas Wilson, Trannie Anderson, Edgar Yipsel Hartburg, and Harold Arlan. Last week, she spoke to the hosts of CBS Mornings about the new track, revealing that it’s one of the most personal songs she’s ever released.

”I spend a lot of my time, 30,000 feet in the air, flying to the next show, the next town, And, you know, when you’re staring out the window, you get to just spend a little bit of time with yourself and reminisce and dream, talk to God, all of those things,” she exokained. “This song right here, it gave me an opportunity to step back into a pair of shoes I wore a long time ago. I’m partial, but this is one of my favorite songs I have ever written,” she added. “Of course, everybody is inspired by the song ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow.’”
