With 50 years worth of jokes, laughs, and iconic moments, Saturday Night Live welcomed back a slew of celebrities and performers to celebrate the show’s rich history. While the SNL stage isn’t the same size as a football field, that didn’t stop Lil Wayne from putting on a powerful performance. Throughout his time in the spotlight, he covered songs like “Lollipop”, “Mrs. Officer”, and “Uproar.”

While gaining applause from those in attendance, fans online quickly pointed to the fact that some believed it was better than the Super Bowl Halftime Show. “The energy, the breath control, the stage presence.. and y’all had the nerve to say Wayne couldn’t headline the Super Bowl.”

Another fan believed the performance came at the perfect time given many still discussed the halftime show. “Whoever booked @LilWayne and let him do all these songs… right after the Super Bowl in Nola situation… said, “Check (pause) (smirk) mate.”

Lil Wayne Admitted It “Hurt” Not Performing At Super Bowl

As for the Super Bowl, Lil Wayne opened up about not getting the chance to perform in his home state. Not shying away from his emotions, he admitted, “I thought there was nothing better than that spot, that stage, that platform, in my city. So it hurt, it hurt a whole lot.”

Although Lil Wayne wanted to helm the Super Bowl Halftime Show, he made sure to send his love to Lamar. “I’ve spoken to him, and I wished him all the best, and I told him he better kill it. You better kill it. You got to kill it.”

It seemed that Lamar did exactly that, setting a new record when it came to viewership during the halftime show. And for Lil Wayne, the idea of performing at the Super Bowl might still become a reality.
