Luke Bryan Offers Simple, Yet Wise, Songwriter Advise in Surprise Cameo on ‘Duck Dynasty: The Revival’

With over two decades worth of experience in country music, Luke Bryan decided to use his knowledge to help a new generation of singers when he became a judge on American Idol. And over the last few years, he helped the show shine a light on several shining stars. But recently, the country singer found himself offering his advice not to a room full of contestants but Willie Robertson’s son, Willie Robertson Jr., when he appeared on the latest episode of Duck Dynasty: The Revival

While a top name in country music, Bryan expanded his career into the business world. And when becoming friends with the Robertson family, he decided to become a partner in the Buck Commander brand. Having shared time with the family, he was called on when Robertson Jr. needed help writing a song for the family’s LO Worship Night.

Having produced songs like “Buy Dirt”, “Country Girl”, and “Play It Again”, Bryan seemed like the perfect person to call on. Not wanting to cause a great deal of stress over the songwriting process, the singer told Robertson Jr., “So Will, you gonna start messing with songwriting? My advice for songwriting is just, you know, I’ve always said just get out there and live.”

Willie Robertson Jr. Got Help From More Than Just Luke Bryan

Even before writing the first word, Robertson Jr. insisted he had no idea how to write a song. “I’ve never written a song in my life, ever… Do you know how hard it is to write a song? Sometimes it takes years to write a song.” While the young Robertson was right, most people don’t have a star like Bryan in their corner.

Again, with Bryan wanting Robertson Jr. to be comfortable with the process, he told him, “Hey, feel lucky that you’re a good enough person where your parents want you back. We’re at a phase where we don’t know where we want our children right now.”

Outside of getting advice from Bryan, Robertson Jr. also spent time with Tyler Farr. The singer released two studio albums and even watched as his hit “A Guy Walks Into a Bar” snagged the No. 1 spot on the charts in 2015. With more than enough help, Robertson Jr. was able to pen the perfect song for Worship Night.
