“Mark My Words”: Kerry King Says Slayer Will Never Tour or Record Again

Slayer wrapped up their farewell tour in November 2019 at The Forum in Los Angeles, California. Last year, the band announced and played a few festival dates. They’ll also appear at Louder Than Life later this year. As a result, many fans are hoping that the iconic thrash metal outfit will soon be back on the road or in the studio. However, according to Kerry King, a full-scale reunion is not on the table.

Kerry King Says Slayer Won’t Tour or Record Again

Kerry King didn’t beat around the bush when asked about the future of Slayer. “You know, we’re never going to tour again. We’re never going to make a record again,” he said. “Mark my words, we’re never going to make a record again, we’re never going to tour again,” he reiterated. So many bands and artists have “retired” only to come back for multiple “farewell tours” and release new albums. It seems like that won’t be the case for the thrash metal pioneers.

“That was the last thing. We said, ‘This is our final tour.’ It took us five years to come and say, ‘Hey, here’s a couple shows, five-year anniversary,’” King said. “I think it’s really cool. A lot of fans are into it. There’s going to be haters that say ‘Yeah, they’re retired.’ Whatever. This is all about celebration,” he added.

King went on to explain why he felt it was important to get Slayer back together for a handful of shows. “Say a kid was 10 years old when we retired. Now, he’s 15, 16. [It’s his] first opportunity to see us. I think that’s important,” he said.

There’s no word if Slayer will do future reunion shows. However, King’s debut solo album From Hell I Rise dropped last year which will scratch the thrash metal itch for many fans. His band features former Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph, former Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel, former HELLYEAH bassist Kyle Sanders, and Death Angel vocalist Mark Osegueda.
