Claiming her place in modern country music, Megan Moroney has connected with fans through her confessional songwriting on hits like “No Caller ID” and “Break It Right Back.” Recently, the CMA’s reigning New Artist of the Year hinted that the follow-up to last year’s Am I Okay is closer than fans think. And Moroney’s producer, Kristian Bush, just indicated that fans might want to begin stockpiling tissues now.

“Holy Smokes”: Megan Moroney Producer Hypes Up Her Forthcoming Album

Bush, one half of the award-winning country music duo Sugarland alongside Jennifer Nettles, revealed after a recent show at Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, Georgia, that he was preparing to fly to Nashville to finish up Moroney’s third album.

“On another note, we’ve been making these Megan Moroney records. They’re doing really well. No small feat there,” said Bush, 55. “We are going to be, first thing tomorrow morning, we’re going up to Nashville and finish the third one.”

“And it’s really good,” he added. “Holy smokes.”

Bush’s news closely follows the release of the album’s lead single, “6 Months Later.” The “Stuck Like Glue” musician shared a gushing tribute to Moroney in a June 20 social media post.

“Here she goes again and I am so grateful to have a front row seat. Megan keeps getting better, as an artist, a writer, and as a singer,” Bush wrote. “The sky really is the limit.”

Moroney also took to social media herself to whet fans’ appetites, playfully writing, “wait i think the album is written,” in a June 21 post to X/Twitter.

What We Know So Far

Despite her well-earned “emo cowgirl” moniker, Megan Moroney has hinted that her third studio album will take a “more carefree, sassy and fun” approach.

“This next set of music is a lot happier than what you would expect, but I feel like that’s just where I’m at in life,” the 27-year-old songstress told Audacy’s Katie Neal. “I feel like for once I’m just chillin’, I love it.”

However, Moroney assures die-hard fans that she “would never abandon my emo cowgirl-ness.” Indeed, the ACM Award winner accidentally let slip that “Wedding Dress,” one of her saddest songs ever, is making this album. The University of Georgia alum first teased the song in 2022 ahead of her debut album, Lucky.

Explaining the unreleased track’s premise, Moroney told radio host Elaina Smith, “I’m okay with missing him now, but please don’t let me miss him in a wedding dress. That’s about as sad as it gets.”
