Metallica will kick off the North American leg of their M72 tour later this month. Fans across the nation are gearing up to see one of the biggest metal bands of all time live. However, those who are in cities where the tour will touch down will get something extra. The new fan-focused documentary Metallica Saved My Life will hit theaters in those cities ahead of its wider release later this year.

In 2004, the band released the documentary Metallica: Some Kind of Monster that gave fans an unflinching look at the band. The film documented the production of St. Anger, Jason Newstead’s exit from the band, the hiring of Robert Trujillo, and much more. The new documentary will turn the lens on the fans who have supported the band over the last four decades.

Metallica on the Fan-Focused Documentary
The band shared a statement that shed light on what fans can expect from Metallica Saved My Life. “As a few of you may know, we’ve been working behind the scenes the last couple of years on a new film that will be released later this year starring you guys!” the band wrote. “Metallica Saved My Life explores our world through the lives of fans who have supported each other through highs, lows, trials, and triumphs for over four decades. And yeah, we’re in it a bit, too,” they added.
The documentary isn’t finished yet. However, the band is excited for fans to see it and to get their feedback. As a result, they’re offering limited screenings. “You have the chance to view the film first with a sneak peek at theaters in most of our upcoming tour stops in North America,” the band revealed. “The film will introduce you to fans from all corners of the world and tell their unique stories. You might even be in it!” they shared. “To all the fans who so generously gave us their time and let us into their lives, we say, ‘thank you.’ This film is all about YOU!”
Tickets are on sale now via Fathom Events and are limited to two per person. Metallica Saved My Life is expected to get a wide release later this year.
