“Miss. Yearwood Makes a Lot of Different Cake… Crazy Good”: Garth Brooks Talks Birthday Cake, Birthday Rules, and Closing Las Vegas Residency

Garth Brooks is celebrating his 64th birthday today—and he’s likely doing it in pajamas with cake.

“My favorite cake my whole life is German chocolate,” Brooks said on his website. “But because we have a lot of friends whose birthdays are around the same time, Miss. Yearwood makes a lot of different cakes…carrot cakes, key lime cakes…crazy good!”

The celebration calories could mean wardrobe accommodations are necessary—possibly even elastic waistbands.

“We have some rules at my birthday party,” Brooks said. “No gifts. You must wear your jammies or your most comfortable clothing. And you must eat too much. That’s the perfect party for me.”

Brooks knows some people lament getting older but laughs having birthdays is better than the alternative.

“Here’s the deal … my birthday is every day … literally,” he said. “Miss Yearwood and the people in my life spoil me every day.”

In two weeks, Brooks will celebrate again with a different group of friends. His Garth Brooks/Plus One opened 20 months and two weeks ago at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Now, just nine shows remain to catch Brooks delivering this generation’s most defining country music hits in the festive, cozy 4,300-seat theater. The final shows of the residency will launch February 21, 22 and 23. Then he’ll be back on Feb. 28 and March 1-2. Garth will wrap his residency on March 7, 8 and 9.

“The Caesars Vegas residency has been the best gig we have ever been fortunate enough to have,” Brooks said. “The Carano family (who own Caesars Entertainment) has treated us like family. The staff and crew there have both been fantastic.”

However, the audience at The Colosseum has made his residency such a rewarding and memorable experience.

“The respect they show for the music and one another has been a breath of fresh air for me,” he said.

Brooks brings the full-band experience each night on stage, energetically belting hit after hit – his songs and favorite covers. Every night at his Garth Brooks/Plus One residency celebrates all songs Garth Brooks and country music; each show is different. He does an acoustic section. Brooks chats with the audience. Sometimes, he welcomes special guests. Each night is a new experience.

Garth Brooks Is Wrapping Las Vegas Residency

While Brooks looks forward to partying with his fans, he’s mournful that his Caesars run is ending.

“It’s a bunch of mixed feelings right now,” he said. “If we have done our job right, the show is at its best at the end of the residency. With that said, the end of the residency is upon us … and I am going to really miss it.”

Will he ever do another residency? Garth said, “Never say never.”

“It’s been 10 years since our last one, and so logic tells me if we do another one, it will be 10 years down the line,” Brooks said, laughing.

Tickets for Brooks’ remaining shows at his Garth Brooks/Plus One residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace are available here.
