After days of dropping hints on social media, Noah Kahan has shared a new version of his Stick Season track “Northern Attitude.” Released today (November 10), the reimagined version features acclaimed Irish singer/songwriter Hozier, who adds his own magic to the anthemic tune.

The stunning indie-folk song finds the Vermont native faced with feelings of isolation and uncertainty about life. Kahan’s raw and honest delivery feels all the more affecting alongside Hozier’s rich, pleading vocals. The result is a hauntingly beautiful soundscape that spotlights two of the year’s most captivating and distinctly unique voices.
“If you know me at all, you know this collaboration is something very deeply special and important to me,” Kahan shared in a statement. “I used to sit down at the table with my guitar and just try to capture a fraction of the emotion and beauty that Hozier encapsulates in each song he writes. It never quite worked, but each song was better for trying. To have one of my heroes performing this song with me is something I’ll tell my grandkids, or at least my next dog.”
“This song left an instant mark on me when I first heard it; I loved it immediately,” Hozier explained. “I’ve had the great pleasure of getting to know Noah more since we first sang together at Iron Blossom Festival this year, and I’m so glad we could get together on this version of his beautiful song.”
Fans have been speculating that a duet version of the track was in the works following Hozier’s surprise appearance at Kahan’s tour stop in Nashville last month. Kahan has been teasing the release in recent weeks through playful videos posted to his official TikTok account.
The new version of “Northern Attitude” is the latest in a string of headline-making collaborations from Kahan. Throughout the year, he’s teamed up with Kacey Musgraves, Post Malone, Zach Bryan, and Lizzy McAlpine. Kahan’s rapid-fire release schedule has left fans wondering when to expect a new full-length release of original music.

During an interview on the Americana Awards & Honors red carpet in September, Kahan confirmed a follow-up to his breakout record Stick Season was on the way.
“I am working on new music always,” he tells American Songwriter. “I’m incredibly busy, so it’s hard for me to find time to sit down and process what this year has been like for me. I want to make sure the music I make is always music that feels like it needs to come out.”
