On March 16, 1991, several of Reba McEntire’s band members tragically passed away in a plane crash after leaving San Diego on their way to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Since the fatal crash, Reba has never forgotten her band members or the incident that took their life. That being so, this year marked the 34th anniversary of the crash and consequently, Reba shared a short message commemorating the lives of her late band members.

On March 16, 1991, the band members who lost their lives in the plane crash included Jim Hammon, Kirk Capello, Joey Cigainero, Paula Kaye Evans, Terry Jackson, Tony Tony Saputo, Michael Thomas, and Chris Austin. The two pilots, Donald Holmes and Christopher Hollinger, also passed away in the crash.
The plane crash transpired on Otay Mountain just right outside of San Diego, California. Reba and a few others were scheduled to leave the next day, and as a result, were not on the plane that took the lives of her beloved band members. With all that in mind, Reba McEntire took to Instagram to pay homage after another year had passed.
Reba’s Short & Sentimental Message
In her post, Reba did not share any context about the crash nor about the lives lost in it. However, most of her fans as well as the general world of country music are already aware of the event. So, the “Fancy” singer seemingly felt no need to rehash or reeducate the masses on her heartfelt message. Rather, she just admirably said it how it is.
On her Instagram story, Reba wrote, “Always in our minds, thoughts and prayers no matter how many years have passed. Love and miss you all.” Not much else needs to be said about the incident, and frankly, Reba shouldn’t have to relive the incident more than she has already done so.
Regardless, her short message achieves exactly what it sets out to do. The band members who lost their lives in the plane crash will always be in Reba McEntire’s mind as well as in the minds of country music fans everywhere.
