Rising Country Star Cancels Shows After Mother’s Death in Violent Attack

Wanting to expand his career in 2025, country star Spencer Hatcher, like most singers, booked numerous performances throughout the year. Looking at his schedule, the singer prepared to perform at the Rockingham County Fair and the VOA Country Music Festival in the coming weeks. But sadly, Hatcher needed to cancel both performances after his family was rocked with an unexpected tragedy that resulted in his father being injured and his mother’s death.

On August 3rd, Spencer’s mother, 62-year-old Holly Hatcher, and his father, 65-year-old Michael Hatcher, were at home when an intruder forced entry, wielding a large knife. While attempting to fight off the individual, the attacker fatally stabbed Holly. The suspect then turned his attention to Spencer’s father, who sustained multiple injuries. Although the two fought throughout the house, Michael was able to get to his vehicle and retrieve his gun.

Firing at the perpetrator, Michael killed the man, who authorities later identified as 41-year-old Kevin Moses Walker from Maryland. With Michael taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, Hatcher quickly turned his attention to his family. Sharing a post on his Instagram page, the country singer wrote, “It is with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that – due to a monumental loss in our family – I must cancel my upcoming shows at VOA Country Music Fest in Butler County, Ohio and at Rockingham County Fair in Harrisonburg, VA.”

Spencer Hatcher Thanks Fans For Continued Support

Not getting into details surrounding the tragedy, Hatcher added, “I hope to make these dates up to my fans in the future. I appreciate everyone that has lent their support to me and my loved one. We ask that everyone please respect our family’s privacy at this time.”

With an investigation ongoing, investigators claimed that Walker stopped by Walmart to buy a sleeping bag and a large knife before the attack. He was staying at the Endless Caverns RV & Camp in New Market, Virginia.

Trying to make sense of the entire situation, Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson of Rockingham County insisted, “This is a highly unusual, apparently completely random [attack] with an individual with no known history of violent behavior of any kind, or even criminal behavior of any kind.”
