Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Cancels All Future Concerts Due To Fear of Natural Disasters

With a career spanning the 1960s, the Steve Miller Band spent decades sharing their love of music with fans worldwide. Having released over a dozen albums, their last, Let Your Hair Down, hit the airwaves in 2011. But besides their time in the studio, the band also hit the road, touring the country. Again, with decades worth of experience, the Steve Miller Band were experts when it came to touring. That was until recently, when the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Steve Miller himself announced that he was canceling all future concerts due to concerns about a natural disaster.

Over the last few years, it appeared that natural disasters like floods, tornadoes, and raging fires have become a common occurrence. It was only a few weeks ago that floods ripped through the Texas Hill Country, killing 134 people. Looking over the last few years, there were the wildfires in Hawaii and California, the hurricanes in Florida, and the tornado outbreak in the southern United States.

Sharing a post on Twitter, Miller addressed his fans, sharing his worries. “You make music with your instincts. You live your life by your instincts. Always trust your instincts… The Steve Miller Band has cancelled all our upcoming tour dates. The combination of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes and massive forest fires make these risks for you our audience, the band and the crew unacceptable. So… You can blame it on the weather… The tour is cancelled.”

Steve Miller Not The Only One Worried

The news from Miller comes as a shock to many fans as the band prepared to hit the road once again for a tour kicking off in Bethel, New York, on August 15th. But as the musician stated above, none of those 28 concerts will happen.

Miller wasn’t the only one worried about how the climate would impact concerts, as Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders explained how the end of outdoor events was near. “I’m remembering the last couple years when we supported Guns N’ Roses, and then the Foo Fighters in stadiums. It was so hot I had to strap ice packs around my waist. And I realized then that outdoor events are going to come to an end. It’s too hot.”

As for the future, even Miller couldn’t predict when they would hit the stage again. He ended his statement, writing, “Don’t know where, don’t know when… We hope to see you all again. Wishing you all Peace, Love and Happiness, Please take care of each other.”
