“In terms of balancing and being the custodian of [my dad’s] music and my own music, it’s not a burden,” he told reporters, per People. “It’s honestly a great privilege for me. I just feel so lucky that I get to do good by my dad.”
“It seems like a privilege, as his son, to be able to give back,” Sean continued. “He gave the world so much, and he gave me so much, and I just feel really honored to be able to do justice by him if I can.”
John and his wife, Yoko Ono, welcomed Sean in 1975. The Beatles band member was murdered five years later, when Sean was just 5-years-old.
As Sean grew, he, like his parents, got into the music business. He released three solo albums—Into the Sun, Friendly Fire, and Asterisms—between 1998 and 2024.
Sean has also collaborated with other bands and musicians throughout his career, most recently on Claypool Lennon Delirium’s 2019 album, South of Reality.

The musician, who’s also a producer, won big at this year’s GRAMMYs. He and Simon Hilton nabbed the Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package award. The demo teamed up to expand John’s third solo studio album, Mind Games, which was first released in October 1973.
“Mind Games was always one of my favorite albums, and certainly one of my favorite John Lennon albums,” Sean told Variety back in July. “So I just felt like it was an amazing opportunity to be able to work on music that I really love from my father.”
“But then there was another level to it, which is that at the time it came out, it was sort of not very well-received, and I think it fell through the cracks a little bit,” he continued. “… So I felt lucky to have this chance to reinvestigate an album that I always felt was really amazing, and try to represent it to the world in a way that gave it a second chance
Sean said in the press room that he plans to work to release more of his father’s music in the coming years.
“Simon and I are working on the One to One concert, which was John and Yoko’s last concert in Madison Square Garden,” he said. “We’re working on repackaging that, remixing it, and we’ve got a whole film coming with it.”
