Taylor Swift Just Revealed Title, Tracklist for New Album

Well, Swifties, unfortunately we’re no closer to getting the vault tracks from Reputation. However, Taylor Swift significantly lessened that blow when she announced her forthcoming studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.

Swifties knew something was up when a shimmering orange countdown appeared on the “Mastermind” singer’s official website. That countdown led to 12:12 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday, Aug. 12 — the perfect time to announce Swift’s 12th studio album.

The Life of a Showgirl follows last year’s The Tortured Poets Department, which spent a career-best 17 weeks atop the Billboard 200. Making her podcast debut on New Heights — hosted by boyfriend Travis Kelce and his older brother, Jason — the 14-time Grammy Award winner gave fans the lowdown on her next project.

Taylor Swift Talks Eras Tour Easter Egg

Because Taylor Swift does nothing by accident, fans took notice when she changed her exit strategy during the final stop along her billion-dollar Eras Tour last December. For the first time, the “Fortnight” singer, 35, walked upstage and exited through an orange door.

“I was pretty happy that they noticed that,” Swift said during Wednesday’s (Aug. 13) episode of New Heights. “I was like, ‘Trained them well.’”

Indeed, that orange door heralded a brand-new “Era.” During the interview, Swift pulled out a mint green briefcase emblazoned with her initials in orange. From there, she unveiled “my brand-new album” as Travis Kelce showered them both with confetti. Meanwhile, Jason Kelce bellowed in delight on behalf of Swifties everywhere.

Hitting shelves Oct. 3, The Life of a Showgirl features brand-new songs like “The Fate of Ophelia,” Elizabeth Taylor,” “Cancelled!” and the title track featuring Sabrina Carpenter.

She Wrote the Album During The ‘Eras’ Tour

Taylor Swift gave us a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the “Eras” Tour with the music video for her 2024 single “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” The Life of a Showgirl, which she wrote during the tour’s European leg, will delve deeper.

“This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and and vibrant,” Swift said.

The Life of a Showgirl reunites Swift with Max Martin and Shellback, the primary collaborators on her 2012 album Red. Working with them on this latest project “felt like catching lightning in a bottle,” the “Anti-Hero” singer said.

The album marries the esoteric storytelling of 2020’s Folklore with “melodies that were so infectious that you’re almost angry at it,” Swift explained.
