Nicks was endlessly inspired by Prince. One of her top solo tracks, “Stand Back,” was a nod to Prince’s “Little Red Corvette.” But his influence doesn’t stop there. Find out how Prince continues to move Nicks and why she wishes they had collaborated while they had the chance.

The Artist Stevie Nicks Wishes She Would’ve Collaborated With
No one looked as I walked by
Just an invitation would have been just fine
Said no to him again and again
First, he took my heart, then he ran
No one knows how I feel
What I say, unless you read between my lines
One man walked away from me
First he took my hand
Take me home
We all have to find something that instills confidence in us. For Nicks, she finds confidence by looking to another musical icon: Prince. The swaggering, sultry artist is emblematic of powerful stage presence for Nicks.
“I feel like Prince is with me…When I’m nervous, I’ll talk to Prince,” Nicks once said. “In my solo act, when I do ‘Moonlight’, I wear this white wolfy coat — I put this coat on and I try to transform into a Dire Wolf from Game of Thrones. And before I go on, I always say, ‘Walk with me, Prince.’”
Stand back, stand back
In the middle of my room, I did not hear from you
It’s alright, it’s alright
To be standing in a line
To be standing in a line
I would cry
After Prince passed in 2016, Nicks regretted never collaborating with him. Though she still feels inspired by him in the wake of his death, she wishes she had acted on their connection while he was still alive.
“Then he was gone — he was like a spirit then,” he added. “We always had that crazy respect for each other. I feel that connection is still there, maybe more now than before he died — with Tom [Petty] and with Prince.”

Do not turn away my friend
Like a willow, I can bend
No man calls my name
No man came
So, I walked on down, away from you
Maybe your attention was more than you could do
One man did not call
He asked me for my love, and that was all
