Kelsea Ballerini started her tenure as a coach on The Voice last week. She took the big red chair once occupied by country legend Reba McEntire. While the “Fancy” singer might be done with the singing competition show, she was still able to welcome her replacement with the kind of regal grace with which she handles everything else.

McEntire got comfortable in her big red chair and wanted to make sure Ballerini felt right at home when she took over. So, last week’s premiere episode, the new coach found a sweet handwritten note and a “good luck charm” left by her predecessor. Watch the moving passing of the torch below.

“Dear Kelsea, I heard you would be the new coach this season and I am just so excited for you,” the note began. “It’s up to you to keep country alive on this show and I know you’ll do a terrific job. Now, go out there and show those boys who’s the boss,” McEntire wrote. Then, she added that she left Ballerini a “little good luck charm” in case she needed it.
After reading the note, Ballerini found the Queen Reba crown. She excitedly took up the crown and tried it on. “I feel so fancy,” she said, feeling the crown’s weight on her head.
Kelsea Ballerini Isn’t New to The Voice
This is Kelsea Ballerini’s first full season as a coach on The Voice. However, it’s far from her first time on the show. Her history with the competition goes back to 2018 when the show debuted the comeback stage. Ballerini served as the fifth coach for contestants who were eliminated during the Blind Auditions.
Three years later, Ballerini returned to The Voice to fill in for Kelly Clarkson during the Battle Rounds. Before that, she was Clarkson’s Battle advisor.
So, Ballerini would have been somewhat comfortable with her new role as a coach. However, the sweet welcome package from Reba McEntire—a country legend who served as a coach for three seasons—likely made taking the role that much easier. Time will tell if she will be able to score a win during her debut season like McEntire did with Asher HaVon.
