Trace took to Instagram on January 22 to voice a public cry of concern for his father. In the message, Trace expressed that he was concerned for his father’s well-being.

In the initial post, Trace penned a lengthy post directed toward Billy Ray, begging him to seek help. The caption of the post accompanies a photo of Trace and Billy Ray Cyrus from years back.

“You’re not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it,” said Trace in the caption of the post. “As I write this with tears in my eyes I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon. I love you Dad.”

Just a few days later on Saturday, January 25, Trace returned to Instagram to say that his father had threatened him legally following his first public plea for Billy Ray to “get help.”

“I could have been extremely honest about a lot more but I don’t want to put your business out there like that,” the post reads, again directed at Billy Ray Cyrus. “But for you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace.”

In a now-expired Instagram story, Trace also noted that his father had contacted a family member to make him aware of the impending (alleged) legal action, and he has not yet spoken to his father.

Fans responded to Trace’s recent Instagram post with a mix of confusion and concern.

“What’s going on with his dad?” asked one commenter.

“This is a child crying out for their parent,” said another. “Would you all not do the same if you were in a similar situation?”

Billy Ray Cyrus has not yet publicly responded to statements made by his son. The “Achy Breaky Heart” hitmaker’s last public performance was on January 20, where he performed at Donald Trump’s inauguration with some noteworthy technical issues.

It isn’t abundantly clear what exactly Trace (and allegedly, other members of the Cyrus family) are alluding to in the posts about Billy Ray’s well-being. However, Billy Ray’s recent ex-wife, Firerose, did make a statement to People following her ex-husband’s performance at the inauguration and Trace’s public pleas.

“What’s being seen in public now reflects much of what I experienced in private during our relationship,” said Firerose, who married Billy Ray in 2023 and divorced in 2024. “It’s very sad to see those same struggles continue for him, but I’m glad the truth is coming to light.”
