The famed Georgia rapper had been in the hospital since December 12, following a gunshot wound to the head which left him comatose. The injury is believed to have been self-inflicted. A 911 call from a neighbor, who heard a gunshot, led authorities to Maco’s residence where he was quickly transported to a nearby hospital.

Doctors had allegedly been having a difficult time getting a proper brain scan of the rapper in order to provide additional care. Allegedly, Maco’s coma had worsened and he went into “critical condition”, and doctors were unable to revive him. When Maco was originally admitted, false reports of his death had circulated around social media.

Naturally, Maco’s family, who were flown to Los Angeles following his admittance, are understandably heartbroken over the loss.

OG Maco’s Legacy Lives On

OG Maco, born Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., was best known for his hit debut song “U Guessed It”, which was released in 2014. The Atlanta rapper and songwriter wasn’t one to avoid pushing the envelope. His musical ability earned him a coveted spot on the 2015 XXL Freshman Class list, which also featured the likes of K Camp and Vince Staples. He was also known for his 2016 EP For Scott…

Maco released his debut studio album The God Of Rage in 2021. He has also been featured in countless extended plays and mixtapes featuring the likes of OGG, TAX FREE, Zaytoven, Rome Fortune, and more.

Sadly, Maco had suffered from a host of medical issues following his rise to fame. In 2016, Maco was in an almost fatal car crash and suffered a number of injuries. Just a few of those injuries included skull fractures, cracked vertebrae, and heart palpitations. He also allegedly almost lost his eye in the crash.

In 2019, Maco was diagnosed with a rare flesh-eating disease known as necrotizing fasciitis. Maco struggled with depression throughout the years dealing with his injuries and diagnosis. His depression is believed to have been a factor in his death.

We wish OG Maco’s family and loved ones nothing but the best during this difficult time.
