Since breaking into the country music world, ERNEST has played some massive gigs solo and with his friend and collaborator, Morgan Wallen. However, his most recent gig was much smaller. Over the weekend, he played a Chris LeDoux classic at Jamey Johnson’s wedding. However, it wasn’t just any performance. He played the song during the newlyweds’ first dance as a married couple.

ERNEST took to social media yesterday (May 21) to share videos of the event. He also posted a screenshot of the text conversation in which Johnson asked him to perform at his wedding. While the “Flower Shops” singer admitted that it was a nerve-wracking gig, he said the invitation from Johnson was “an honor.” Watch the happy couple dance while he plays below.

ERNEST Was Jamey Johnson’s First Choice for His First Dance
ERNEST shared his and Jamey Johnson’s text conversation that contained the invitation. It seemingly came out of nowhere. The screenshot shows a snippet of a message he sent to Johnson in which he mentions listening to a Hank Cochran tribute album. Then, seemingly at random, Johnson asks, “Will you sing our first dance?” He followed the question with “Chris LeDoux ‘Look at You Girl.’”
While ERNEST was honored by the request, he wanted to make sure he was up for the challenge. “I’m going to my hotel room with the guitar right now to see how comfortable I can get with it,” he told Johnson. He then asked if it would be a solo acoustic performance.
He may have been unsure about the song in the beginning, but he wasn’t going to let the opportunity pass him by. “I’ll give you a solid answer by the end of the day,” he wrote.” I do not wanna f**k up your first dance song LMAO,” he added.
Johnson then explained to ERNEST why the song was so important to him. This likely added a little more pressure to the performance. “It’s a tradition with me. I’ve sang that song at so many weddings,” he explained. “You’re the only one I know that would appreciate the tradition and do it the justice it deserves,” he added. “I’d sing it to her myself, but I gotta do all the manual labor this job myself,” Johnson added jokingly.
