Shania Twain made it big back in the late 1990s and early 2000s with the release of Come On Over. “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” is still an iconic country-pop track today; her music has endured in a way that most country and pop artists could only dream of. Pretty quickly after her tour for the album, Shania Twain packed up, moved to Switzerland, and virtually disappeared from the limelight outside of an album release in 2002.

However, Twain has been anything but not busy. Let’s look at what the country-pop icon has been doing in recent years!
Collecting Awards in the 1990s Like Infinity Stones
Following the success of Come On Over, Twain went on to win quite a laundry list of Billboard Music awards, People’s Choice awards, ACM awards, Grammys, and more. That album took the country (and pop) world by storm, without a doubt. The Canadian superstar also moved to Switzerland in the late 1990s as well.
A New Album in the Early 2000s and a Sudden Hiatus
Twain released her fourth album Up! in 2002 as a followup to Come On Over. There were three different versions released, and the album reached no. 1 on the country charts in the UK. Twain toured for the album in almost 100 different arenas around the globe.
In 2004, she released her Greatest Hits album, which was a similar success across the pond. The album was a huge success in the UK, where it became three-times certified platinum. In 2005, she released the single “Shoes” which climbed the US Hot Country Songs chart.
Unfortunately, in 2005, Twain went on a music hiatus. According to Twain, the hiatus occurred after she began experiencing singing difficulties as well as dysphonia, which made it difficult to produce sound due to tightened muscles. The source of her difficulties was likely due to Lyme Disease. It was heartbreaking and poorly timed, considering Twain was at the height of her career.
“My voice was never the same again,” Twain said in the documentary Not Just A Girl. “I thought I’d lost my voice forever. I thought that was it, I would never, ever sing again.”
Floating Through The 2010s and a Comeback
In 2011, Shania Twain reappeared with the release of “Today Is Your Day” and received her star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. The next year, it looked like Twain had finally recovered from her illness and kicked off her massively successful Las Vegas residency.
In 2017, Twain performed at the US Open tennis games, where she performed her biggest songs along with new material from her upcoming album. She released Now that year, then went on another hiatus.
Luckily, Twain didn’t quit music for good. She performed at the 2019 American Music Awards and launched a second Las Vegas residency.
The Comeback Queen in the 2020s
In 2022, Twain blew the minds of old and new fans alike when she joined Harry Styles on stage at Coachella for a performance of “You’re Still The One” and “Man! I Feel Like A Woman”. That year, she also released her Netflix documentary Not Just A Girl, scored an Academy of Country Music’s Poet Award, and got inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame.
In 2023, Twain released her newest album Queen Of Me, which quickly became a no. 1 hit in the UK.
Since then, she’s served as a judge on the show Starstruck, worked with fellow musician Anne-Marie, remastered Come On Over, performed an unexpected set with Foo Fighters, and performed at Glastonbury. Twain is currently slated to host The People’s Choice Country Awards in 2024 as well.
Could another comeback be in the works? We’ll have to wait and see with fingers crossed!
