WWE Superstar Says the Beatles Are “100% Overrated” Calling Them a “Phony Boy Band”

WWE superstar CM Punk had never been one to shy away from controversy. Since signing with the promotion in 2005, he has effortlessly played both heel and babyface roles. No matter which side of the coin his arc found him, Punk was always outspoken with his skill on the microphone matching his skill in the squared circle. Currently, Punk is playing the ‘face role but seems to be drawing some heat over his take on the Beatles.

In a video posted to social media, WWE host Jackie Redmond went backstage and asked members of the promotion’s roster what popular thing they didn’t enjoy. Things like mint chocolate chip ice cream and The Big Bang Theory didn’t get much reaction from Redmond. However, Punk’s answer stunned both Redmond and WWE’s Alicia Taylor. “I don’t like the Beatles,” he told Redmond without missing a beat.

CM Punk Defends His Position on the Beatles

Jackie Redmond wasn’t going to let CM Punk just say he didn’t like the Beatles and leave it alone. She had to know more. First, she tried to get backup, asking Alicia Taylor, “Are you hearing this?” However, Redmond would get no help from the Raw ring announcer. “I was shocked that I found someone else who doesn’t like the Beatles,” she replied.

Redmond then asked Punk to explain his position after he said the group was “100% overrated.” He was happy to oblige. He went on to call the Fab Four a “phony boy band that was manufactured and went through sh**ty phases.” Mocking the group, he added, “Oh, we’re hippies now. We’re psychedelic now.”

Taylor went on to share that she doesn’t believe she and Punk’s take on the iconic group is all that rare. They, however, aren’t afraid to share their honest opinions. She believes that most people say they love the Beatles because they feel obligated to do so.

The group currently boasts more than 31 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Most of their top songs currently have hundreds of millions of streams. Their most popular track, “Here Comes the Sun” currently sits at more than 1.5 billion streams.
