YUNGBLUD Shares Preview of Forthcoming Project with New Single “Lowlife”

YUNGBLUD has officially entered a new era with the single “Lowlife.”

The up-tempo single explores the hard-hitting topic of depression. Since YUNGBLUD’s debut in 2017, he has become a leading voice for his generation – tackling taboo topics and sparking difficult conversations through music.

“I wrote ‘Lowlife’ because I just didn’t want to leave my house,” explained YUNGBLUD in a statement. “I was sick of people, of games, of myself, my friends, anytime I did anything some idiot had an opinion about it. What I should do it be. The truth is I didn’t want to be anything at all sometimes, I wanted to be nothing. So I just didn’t leave bed. I was dissatisfied and craving some sort of boredom. The type of boredom where you sit in your house, in the same sheets, and watch fucking mind-numbing TV, so I wrote a song about it.”

While YUNGBLUD continues to use his knack for songwriting to advocate for acceptance and mental health, he is sonically shifting. The distorted guitar licks and grunge-like instrumentals within “Lowlife” mark the musician’s return to his alternative roots.

I’m not gonna go out today | I wanna sit right here and wish the world away | cause I’m a lowlife, lowlife, sings YUNGBLUD in the Paul Meany-produced track. I don’t care if the people stare | I’m gonna stay right here in my underwear | Cause I’m a lowlife, lowlife.

While covering intense narratives, his voice intertwined with nostalgia-inducing production curates a refreshing sound. The artist has been creating the project with Meany, and letting his creative juices take full rein.

“I’ve not been going into the studio intent on making something like, ‘Close To Me’ or ‘Born This Way,’ or ‘Life On Mars.’ We’d start with a blank canvas each time,” he shared. “Bring up a beat and see what the fuck happens. The best thing about Paul is that he doesn’t give a shit about anything other than believing in the artist in front of him.”

He continued, “The way I’m going to release it is going to be stranger and more innovative. I’m fucking buzzing about it. It is so pure, and I’m in the fucking driver seat. It’s me and 300 kids in fucking Camden like it used to be in 2019, but now there’s missions of them!”

The hitmaker has not confirmed an official release date for the project, but recently announced his North American tour. The trek kicks off on June 27 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Tickets are available for purchase, HERE
