Gibbons co-wrote “Livin’ It Up Down in Texas” with actor/musician Billy Bob Thornton and veteran country singer/songwriter Mark Collie. The song first was heard in a recent episode of Paramount+ TV series Landman, which co-stars Thornton and Collie.
“It seemed really natural to team up with Billy Bob and Mark to write a song for Landman,” Gibbons said. “‘Livin’ It Up Down in Texas’ isn’t, per se, autobiographical, but does encapsulate the oil-stained Lone Star lifestyle as seen each week in the series.”
Gibbons has been friends for many years with Thornton. When he was younger, Billy Bob played drums in a ZZ Top cover band called Tres Hombres, which Gibbons has called “the best little cover band in Texas.” Thornton also co-founded and has played drums for nearly two decades in the band The Boxmasters.
