Nostalgia is the name of the game on this ultimate crowd-pleaser from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, which uses rock and roll as a portal back to the past. But when you sing along to the line “I miss the innocence I’ve known,” you’re right in the now.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve ever played Kiss covers yourself, or even like Kiss. We all sincerely miss those heavy metal bands we used to go see on the landing in the summer.
In concert, Tweedy will sometimes substitute the names of local bands for “Kiss” in the chorus. Thus, in Vermont, you get “playing Phish covers” and “playing Grace Potter covers” thrown in the mix.
