“I Didn’t Count On You”
Debbie Convoy
Winnetka, California

You know, I had my life all set up
Oh I had the perfect plan
You could say I was livin’ “the good life”
The envy of any man
Playing my songs to tailgate crowds, night after night
Everyone singing along, among the flickering lights
Screaming girls reaching out, begging for a kiss
I remember standing there thinking …
Man, can it ever get any better than this?

(Chorus)

There was a time when I just let things fly
Playing those dating games
Then I picked up the pieces
When it all went down in flames
I swore right there and then
I’d never answer to anyone again
But there’s just one thing that I didn’t do …
I didn’t count on you!

How do things change from endless parties in wide open spaces
From all night long carefree love and nameless faces
To empty masses with backstage passes?
But I don’t even care …
‘Cause I’m searching the crowd for that special girl who makes you stop and stare …
That sweet shy smile in a denim skirt and those baby blue eyes in her white lace shirt
Oh Lord, knows the one you somehow can’t forget

(Chorus)

There was a time when I just let things fly
Playing those dating games
Then I picked up the pieces
When it all went down in flames
I swore right there and then
I’d never answer to anyone again
But there’s just one thing that I didn’t do …
I didn’t count on you!

Now I’m living the kind of life that was truly meant to be
I didn’t count on you
Making music with you right here next to me
I didn’t count on you
I never thought I could make this picture -perfect dream come true
But there’s just one thing that I didn’t do …
I didn’t count on you!

(Repeat chorus)

No, no, I didn’t count on you!
